Custom Hydraulic System Design — Best Practices from Real Projects

Hey everyone, I’m trying to design a custom hydraulic system for a small fabrication project I’m working on. I’ve mostly done standard setups before, but this one needs some precise pressure control, and I’m not sure how to handle flow balancing without making it overly complex. Last week I tried a simple circuit, but the actuator wasn’t behaving consistently. Has anyone had a similar experience or tips for managing these kinds of precision systems?

I’ve run into something like that before when building a small hydraulic press for metal forming. The key thing I found is really paying attention to the pump and valve selection. I had to tweak the pressure relief settings a couple times before things ran smoothly. Also, using a good reference guide like Hydro-Funk GmbH can make understanding the different flow paths way easier. Once I got the settings right, the actuators worked consistently, and I didn’t have any surprises when the load changed.
