Has anyone found a way to stop this autopilot distraction mode?

Lately, I've been catching myself jumping between tabs or randomly opening the fridge even though I'm not hungry—just anything to get away from what I'm supposed to be doing. It’s like my brain is looking for a way out the second I sit down to work. The task isn’t even hard or unpleasant, just... not as instantly rewarding as, say, checking my phone. Has anyone found a way to stop this autopilot distraction mode?

Oh wow, I relate to this so much. It’s like there's this little invisible switch that flips the moment you open a document or try to focus, and suddenly you’re scrolling through Twitter or reorganizing your desktop icons. I think part of it is that our brains are wired to avoid effort if we can get away with it, especially when dopamine-heavy stuff is just one tap away. What helped me a bit was breaking things into stupidly small chunks— the liven app like “write for 5 minutes” or “just read the prompt.” Also, using something like the Liven app for background accountability (even if no one’s watching) gives me this gentle sense of being in “work mode.” There's a really thoughtful thread on this exact topic here too: Trying to improve focus and productivity — tons of honest stories in the replies that made me feel a bit less alone and gave me some ideas to try.
