As midwives, it's apparent to many of us that we have more to offer than we are giving right now. We can engender deeper, more integral relationships with women and families who seek our care.
What is soul-level communication, and what does it look like in practice?
It is the ability to connect with someone in an open and neutral place,
to listen to them, to meet them where they are at.
It's the ability to connect without judgment and without the need
to have anyone meet our personal or professional expectations.
It is based on the understanding that the greatest gift a midwife can posses is her ability to nurture.
And it is implicit that the function of the midwife is to discover how to best nurture each mother and family in the way that serves them best.
It requires a realization of the effect of position and influence of the caregiver on the mother and a willingness to address this and to authentically share power and influence with each mother.
It is co-creation in the highest sense of the word in which mother and midwife are equally important in the relationship.
Many of us are waiting for someone to engage a soul relationship with us...
Someone to see us as a person, a deep and profound person
with a wealth of stories, thoughts and feelings.
Someone who would like to explore that depth with us...
not to educate us, but to share,
not to be our authority, but to be our confidant,
not to show us the way but to witness us as we find our way...
through birth, motherhood and life.
