The winds of change are always blowing and revealing new vistas and different intersections. Here's what is happening at The Matrona from August through December 2007. But first a note about the direction of The Matrona for next year.
The Matrona is traveling in 2008!
Yes, our Holistic Midwifery workshops, Holistic Doula trainings, homeopathic workshops, The Council of Women retreat can come to YOUR area. All these programs and more are being offered across the U.S., in Canada, and in Peru. Please check out all the different programs on our site and see if you would like to join us or bring a specific program to your area.

PLEASE NOTE: The four month Holistic Midwifery Immersion will not be offered in January in Asheville, NC. I believe that this program is an important option in the education of midwives. In 2008, The Matrona is traveling to bring these midwifery concepts to you, and to facilitate a shift in the education of midwives. We are offering a paradigm that does not require an institutionalized perception of midwifery training, and that offers a deepening of the life skills inherent in midwifery care. Communication skills, eldership training, discussions on rank-power-privilege, the exploration and development of intuition... all of these topics are vital parts of our curriculum, and go hand-in-hand with anatomy and physiology and practical skills. Our curriculum has not changed. However, I have had requests to bring the intuitive portions to other areas, where midwives are hungry to discuss these deeper topics. It is my goal to offer the four month Immersion program again in 2009.

August 2007
HOLISTIC MIDWIFERY INTENSIVE, 8/17 - 19 & 8/24 - 26: I will be in Bellingham, WA for two, three-day-weekend workshops. This is an opportunity to discuss midwifery and birth in the undisturbed paradigm. If we wish to foster and practice in sync with the teachings of Michel Odent, how do we prepare ourselves? What kind of education do we seek? How do we recognize and handle variations of birth that may require assistance, and still facilitate an undisturbed birth? HOMEOPATHIC INTENSIVE, 9/1 - 10/4: The Matrona presents a 118 hour Homeopathy Intensive in Asheville, NC. I have used and taught homeopathy for the past 25 years, and I know that homeopathy rocks. It is the future of medicine. It is part of a complete system of healing; part of the Wise Woman Tradition. Homeopathy is natural, accessible, and affordable, and we are working hard to make it simple. The more we learn, the easier it becomes. SOUTHEAST WOMEN'S HERBAL CONFERENCE, 9/28 - 9/30: On the Autumn Equinox weekend in September, I'll be at the Southeast Women's Herbal Conference in Hendersonville, NC. Rosemary Gladstar, Luisah Tish and many other wonderful and powerful women will be there. I'll be offering three presentations during the conference:

November 2007
WOMAN'S AYAHUASCA JOURNEY - PERUVIAN AMAZON, 11/6 - 11/14: We will gather in Peru this month for our annual Ayahuasca Journey. We meet in Iquitos, in the Amazon basin, and from there we travel upriver into the jungle. Under the tutelage of Juan Paimos, we will make the ayahuasca brew and have the opportunity to partake of this plant spirit medicine three times during our stay. Cost is $799 + airfare, and includes lodging and most meals, travel on the Amazon, Plant Spirit Medicine, fees for portage in the jungle, plus stipends for teachers, cooks and helpers...basically everything you will need in Peru. November and December 2007
STREETWISE HOMEOPATHY IN CUSCO, PERU, 11/18 - 12/9: I'll be staying in Peru until mid-December, to offer a Streetwise Homeopathy Training. We will gather in Cusco, high in the Andes. Cusco is the Gateway City to Machu Pichu, and a mecca for travelers and pilgrims throughout South America. The homeopathic training spans three weeks, from Monday, November 19th through Saturday, December 8th. It is not required that you be present for all three weeks. Matrona in Motion -- 2008
Our home base in 2008 will be in Vermont, in the Bennington area. As the year unfolds, I have some programs planned in Vermont and will also be returning to the Asheville area to offer some specific workshops. For the rest of the year, The Matrona is ON TOUR. I will be traveling throughout the U.S., offering trainings, retreats and classes. Please look over the offerings here and on our website.
